Destination weddings can be a blast ~ we get to go to awesome locations (in one month we were in Peru, Ecuador and Cape Cod) indulge in the culture and experience some pretty amazing customs that come with the new territory. They tend to be smaller more intimate affairs with family and the very closest of friends.

Love these shoes that Christopher presented to his groomsmen just before the wedding!

Weddings are such inspirational affairs between two people in love as well as those special lifelong relationships with family. This moment captures the exuberance and joy that a father feels for his baby girl!

~ as this moment captures the excitement of a first dance as husband and wife.

Destination weddings also give us an opportunity to create images in settings and locations that are new to us ~ presenting the challenge of coming away from these events with moments of love and celebration between family and friends but also a sense of place.

I had the wonderful experience of photographing Lourdes and Chris the next day in and around locations on Cape Cod. It seemed like every bend of the road was another beautiful scenic vista ~ a canvas with which to create some amazing wedding portraits!

I am filled with such gratitude that I get to capture moments of love, joy and celebration ~ an honor to be there for my couples and deliver these captured moments for them and future generations to delight in!

A Quito, Ecuador Wedding

Although I feel so lucky to have been given the opportunity to photograph all my brides and grooms on their big day, I felt twice as fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel to Quito, Ecuador for Diana and Nick’s fairy tale wedding! Cristobal and I spent a few days in Quito, taking in the beautiful landscapes, the genuinely nice people, and a very different culture, really getting into the mood of this unique wedding.

What’s unique about this experience was that we were able to be intimate with the families before the actual wedding, which we don’t usually get to do until the wedding day. We spent days before even a day of travel afterwards with her family and so the wedding day itself felt like a family affair to even us!

For both Diana and Nick, this was a very intimate affair and letting loose was the plan. The party was over the top and every detail was paid close attention to. The food was spectacular and the variety of bands she had playing her wedding never gave anyone a chance to sit!

From top to bottom, this was one of those weddings I will never forget and one of the couples I hope to never lose touch with! In fact, we learned that they are expecting a baby and we hope to be a part of that new chapter in their lives.

Lima Peru Wedding

Recently I shared with you Paola + Marko’s wedding and in that post I asked the question ” So who does a Bride that is a wedding professional choose to photograph her own wedding?” Today I am going to share with you Adriana and Juan’s Lima, Peru wedding experience ~ So photographing a wedding where both the Bride and Groom are photographers raises the level of expectations up just a notch…

Wanting to create amazing images with every wedding, I researched online for locations that personified Lima. The Convento de San Francisco is one of those exquisite offerings! I read where vendors would feed the hundreds of pigeons and in turn would sell corn meal to the visitors to feed the birds! I knew that I wanted to photograph Adriana and Juan running through a flock of pigeons in front of this beautiful church! I think I succeeded in getting that shot!

Timeless images are a standard of this studio and we successfully create images that will forever be a cherished heirloom ~ think about it ~ you want exquisite photographs that years from now will bring those feelings of love, joy and excitement that you felt in the moment!

Imagine the experience Dad had ~ walking with his daughter on his arm down the aisle and give her to the new love of her life with a twist ~ Adriana’s Dad built the church! Take a look at the slide show at the end of this Blog post to get a sense of the beautiful setting that he created for his baby!

Now this 1930 Packard Sedan Limousine was simply perfect ~ like new! Now if you think traffic in Miami is crazy…not compared to traffic in Lima! The chauffeur drove this beauty through the streets like he owned the town ~ I was in the front seat during the trip to the church and my heart passed the stress test!

Inspiration is a wonderful drug! Adriana and Juan so trusted us to create and create we did! What you don’t see is a couple of hundred visitors to Plaza Mayor that got quite a show seeing a Princess run into the arms of her Prince ~ this wedding was like a fairytale!

The party was an elixir of delight as family and friends swooned under a magical evening of music, fireworks, confetti and lots of love!

Acqualina Resort and Spa Wedding

I remember when I first met April and Jarrod a few months before their wedding; they were excited about their wedding and wanted to make sure they had the right connection with their wedding photographer. In all honesty, you are putting your full trust in a person who is going to be recording these valuable memories and at the same time you want to be comfortable and at ease with the person who is going to be there with the two of you all day!  I felt we all hit it off and being at their wedding was a true joy for me, as I know it was for them as well.

April and Jarrod were married at the Acqualina Resort. It’s a gorgeous resort with amazing locations for photos, as well as having one of the most beautiful beach views any hotel has to offer! The couple had a very intimate and private event and I wanted to make sure that the first time they saw each other was reflective of their day.

From the cold state of Washington, having their ceremony on the warm beaches of Miami just made sense to April and Jarrod! The weather was amazing and the beach was a great backdrop for their guests, who were also all from out of town. It was important for their wedding to be simple and carefree and through their photos, you can tell we succeeded in achieving that!

I had a lot of great moments with April and Jarrod! We had a great time creating fantastic portraits around the property that really reflected their personalities.

It was a beautiful night!

Quito, Ecuador Wedding

Life is truly filled with many surprises! And when it comes to meeting the “ONE” ~ we all at one time or another wonder when that moment arrives. I have had the delight in listening to many a beginning of a love story and it’s amazing how many unique and different ways that couples meet! From internet dating sites to being hooked up by friends or family to that moment you walk into a room and your eyes meet and there’s something about those eyes that just met yours ~

So it was for Diana and Nicholas ~ their eyes met at Blue Martini and their love story was created!

Recently my partner, Stella had the experience of creating some amazing portraits of these two during this very special time in their lives and she is very excited to be photographing their wedding this coming spring in Quito, Ecuador!

So many of you that follow our Blog are engaged or about to be engaged ~ as this time of year seems to be a wonderful time to pop the question ~ “Will You Marry Me?” Have you thought about an engagement session? The Palms Hotel Miami Beach Wedding

10.10.10 @ 10AM! You’ll never forget your anniversary! With every year since the new century we have had some unique wedding dates ~ 01.01.01 ~ 07.07.07 ~ to name a few. It has been reported that over 39,000 couples were married this 10.10.10 date!

Do you remember that first kiss with the love of your life? It was probably spontaneous, tender and very meaningful ~ and you were floating on air for days! No one was around ~ but for the two of you it was pivotal! Now it’s your wedding day and no doubt there have been countless kisses, but on your wedding day it seals the deal! I love it that both their eyes are closed as they are about to  ~~~~

These images were taken during one of my favorite parts of  a wedding day ~ the first look ~ when months, weeks, days and then hours of excitement and anticipation reach a climax in the moment that you see each other as Husband and Wife!

Debra’s eyes express all the love hope and desire she has for Joey ~

A beach side ceremony ~ it was a cool morning, flat seas, barely a cloud in the sky ~ it was perfect!

Ritz Carlton South Beach Wedding

Life quite often is referred to as a journey. A trip that will take you through peaks and valleys ~ sunny days and a few stormy ones. Fellow travelers ~ our parents, grandparents, siblings and friends share in the many wonderful destinations ~ first steps, first words, many moments that fill the scrapbook of our lives.  Then one day your humming along and you meet someone who hijacks your heart.

From the day Stacie said yes to a date with Daniel ~ to this day when they both said “I Do” is part of their life’s journey. Together they’ll travel together in this wonderful adventure we call life. They’ll no doubt have many shared experiences that will fill their hearts with so much joy that they’ll feel their hearts bursting with love.

They’ll also be together to when it’s not so easy but together they’ll be ~ a couple.

I can happily state I have been witness to over a 1000 new beginnings and with that countless hugs, laughs, tears of joy and incredible moments. Moments that with my intuitive eyes are captured and it gives me a great sense of pride and joy to have been if only for a day or two, a part of every couple’s journey!

Ritz Carlton Fort Lauderdale Wedding

Today’s proposal point of view comes from our Groom, Jonathan! I think this guy could be a writer because he tells a great story that piqued my interest from the very first line! I can imagine that Kari was also intrigued by his first words to her ~ Read on!

“Kari & I met the old fashion way….at a bar”~~”I was watching Kari from afar during the course of the evening. When she decided to leave, I mustered the courage to throw a line her way~ “Where are you going?”, I asked. “I have been waiting for you here all night.” Soon enough I realized – it wasn’t just that night I had been waiting for her…it was my entire life.”

“Proposing to a girl is perhaps the most nerve-wracking thing a man can do. Prior to ever getting down on one knee, there are avenues of emotion and joy that we all must navigate, roads that add meaning to the moments and which make those four words so special and timeless. For me, the trouble wasn’t nerves or anxiety; the trouble was confining these initial moments of bliss to focus on the task at hand – actually coming up with an idea that I knew would forever be remembered as the sweet beginning of our lives together.”

“After weeks of toiling with various ideas, I came up with something really simple, and if pulled off correctly, would result in what Kari deserved. This was the plan: hire an artist to draw “Will you marry me?” on the sidewalk outside of our apartment. Kari and I would head to brunch that morning and she would see it. As we all know, having a plan is one thing, executing it is another. I got the ring, I bought the chalk from an art store, I even convinced her to go to an early brunch (all who know Kari will certainly understand the enormity of this task).”

“What I didn’t anticipate was the artist not showing and the rain pouring on the sidewalk that Saturday morning. I remember thinking to myself “damn, I wish I had a Plan B”. Well, there was no Plan B. So, like any guy who was banking on this ridiculous plan would do, I got down on my hands and knees prior to Kari ever stepping outside, and wrote those words on the sidewalk myself. It was pretty funny actually. People would hold the umbrella for me while I tried to draw, and at one point, a dog came by and was about to handle his business on my masterpiece. Fettering off the rain, canines, and chalk stains turned out to be the hard part – looking into Kari’s eyes and asking her to marry me was really so simple.”

Today I want to share with you the La Antigua, Guatemala destination wedding of Jennifer and Rolando. Rolando would spend summers with family in Guatemala and when they started to think where they wanted to get married—La Antigua it was! Established in 1543, La Antigua is one of the best preserved and charming of colonial cities in Spanish America.

They chose the Casa Santo Domingo, once a beautiful convent to have their wedding weekend with a tight group of family and friends. The weekend started off with a rehearsal dinner at the Meson Panza Verde. What a beautiful restaurant! Several wonderful toasts and one of Rolando’s Ta-Ta’s (aunt) taking a dip in a fountain endeared me to this wedding and I knew that this was going to be a fabulous wedding to photograph.

If a wedding is like a cake then the Day After Session was the icing! Wedding day schedules quite often allow a few moments with the Bride and Groom and to have a couple of hours with Jennifer and Rolando was heaven. We took off from Casa Santo Domingo in a pair of Tuk-Tuks. A Tuk-Tuk is a small passenger vehicle that resembles a three-wheeled motorcycle with a metal or canvas frame. As we cruised along ancient stone streets, we found wonderful arches, doorways and numerous little nooks and crannies to photograph in.

Life should be an adventure and Jennifer and Rolando’s Guatemala Destination Wedding is an amazing start to a great marriage! So enjoy this amazing wedding slide show and thanks for showing up on my Blog for the latest adventures of Roy Llera Photographers!
