For the past 13 years I have had a love affair photographing the Cuban people. Their lives, their reality, those that still have a dream and those that have lost the dreams they once had. Roy, thank you for caputuring the innocence, strife, hope, endurance, and even the sense of humor of a people and it’s country…your artistic eye captured these beautifully. I cried, laughed and prayed when viewing these images.
That was a beautiful slide show of Cuba…sad, but beautiful. I hope to one day be able to visit my family’s real “home”.
By the way, who sings that version of “Quiereme mucho”? I would love to download it.

This was me when i was young, I really have to say you caught my good side, well Roy I hope that the art in you never dies and that the passion and love that you felt for my mother country never fades with time.
Your work is absolutely beautiful! I have had a long standing obsession with cuba, the people and their art. Your work makes me want to visit and see for myself the resilliance of this amazing culture.
Beautiful and sad pictures of the people and places of my country. At the beginning I was tempted to say: But there are only pictures from Havana! Then I found one from my birthplace: the city of Cienfuegos!

I write poetry; this is for Cuba. Do with it as you wish just leave my name on it.
“I Am a Berliner”
I’m old enought to look back and remember,
The speech we now call: “Ich bin ein Berliner”.
When any oppression exists anywhere,
Then all of we Humans have in it a share.
Although we may wish it were not about us,
But, really, for our rights it is dangerous.
At one time were Nazis in world history,
Frightening close; it could have been about me.
I wondered of Russians; were they defective,
That lived in a land that was so oppressive?
Or maybe could be they did not understand,
The way life was outside in any free land.
When we heard of ‘glasnost’ and ‘perestroika’,
I knew right away that it was all over.
The Russians were never, of course, second rate,
But had not been able to communicate.
First with satellites, but when it brought TV,
It was not very long and Russians were free.
How dare anyone go against what is right?
God maybe will tarry but you’re in His Sight.
and right now the message is spreading around,
We see more oppression’s at last coming down.
How quickly we see each revolt organize,
And able to challenge a government’s size.
It’s because the rebel’s not working alone,
And much of the credit goes to the cell phone.
They who had it worse in the ‘Land of the Brave’.
(I’m talking about the American Slave),
Sure would have been different in our history,
And communications would soon have meant FREE!
Now if I survive this glowing description,
I’ll proudly proclaim that: “I am an Egyptian”!
And if we get it that we are all Humans,
Then soon we will learn that: “We are all Cubans”!
